चोर म्हशीच्या गोठ्यात उभा राहून योग्य वेळेचे वाट पाहत होता, तेवढ्यात त्याच्या कानावर दोन्ही म्हशीचे बोलणे पडले. दोन म्हशी एकमेकींशी बोलत होत्या. एका म्हशीने दुसऱ्या म्हशीला विचारले- तू आजच येथे आलीस का? दुसऱ्या म्हशीने उत्तर दिले- हो, मी मागील जन्मात शेठजींकडून पैसे घेतले होते आणि ते आता फेडण्यासाठी आले आहे. तू केव्हापासून येथे आहेस?
पहिल्या म्हशीने उत्तर दिले- मला येथे तीन वर्ष झाले आहेत. मी शेठजींकडून कर्ज घेतले होते आणि पुढील जन्मात परत देईल असे सांगितले होते. शेठजींकडून कर्ज घेतल्यानंतर माझा मृत्यू झाला आणि मी म्हैस बनून येथे आले. आता दूध देऊन कर्ज फेडत आहे. जोपर्यंत कर्जाचे पूर्ण पैसे जमा होत नाहीत, मला येथेच राहावे लागेल.
